This week's Illustration Friday word is "ahead". That made me think about hiking as a child, and how my sister and I would always take off ahead of our parents to be the first ones to the top.

American Visionary Museum
Last Saturday while on my trip to Baltimore for the National Art Ed. Association Convention, I visited the American Visionary Museum. It is a fabulous museum full of all types of unconventional art created by artists who were not formally trained in an art school. A full sized glass mosaic-covered bus greets you near the entrance. This egg shaped sculpture is also outside. A wide variety of intriguing sculptures, paintings, textiles, and drawings make this museum a must-see if you visit Baltimore.

Illustration Friday "Linked"
I had the opportunity to visit Lilla Rogers Studio on Saturday with about 20 other illustrators from several critique groups in the New England area. The main focus of Lilla's presentation was about licensing and the importance of staying trend savvy. She is currently representing 34 artists from all over the world and we were shown many examples of their work. Her studio is in her home and it's a fabulous space, extremely colorful and full of all types of art! I enjoyed her "tips for success", one being "Motivate yourself with inspiration, not self-flagelation". An artist needs discipline and goals to be successful, but this shouldn't be a grind, one can't forget, this is what we love to do!
