I've been having a great time taking a printmaking class this fall. Last weekend I had the opportunity to work in the studio Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon, while an "Open Studio" event was going on at the college. During this marathon session, I worked on a new four-color reduction print. The print is made using only one block that is carved away with each subsequent color. The darkest final layer pulls the image together.
I am a retired high school art teacher who enjoys drawing and painting, but who now works predominately as a printmaker in my small home studio. I love exploring various block printing techniques, and print everything by hand without a press, using water soluble inks.
Whatever I do as an artist, I have to remind myself---no pressure---it all starts by just putting pencil to paper.
