Illustration Friday " Expired"

Nothing like sour milk or curdled cream (always discovered after you have poured it into your coffee) to ruin the morning. Maybe that's why I've taken to green tea and honey as my first cup of the day---no surprises.

No, those are not pickles on her pjs; I was inspired by Gina Perry's germ drawings.

Jr. High Buddies

Tried creating some characters based on neighborhood friends. We all hung out together when we were in Jr. High. They'd come over and we'd let my guinea pigs run around my room.

IF "Subterranean"

For this week's Illustration Friday theme, I tried texturizing the paper beforehand with gouache and saran wrap to create an "earthy" look. I thought about moles because we often see their trails in the yard after the snow melts. I picture a lot of little creatures stirring from their subterranean winter naps and making their way up to the light of day.

Goodbye Winter?

I hope I don't see anymore snow in the yard this year! This is a scratchboard drawing I did of the view from my studio while the ground was still covered. The recent warm temps have cleared out most of the snow, and there are lots of plants beginning to sprout in the perennial beds. Today's newspaper said we average about 12" of snow in March, so I guess there is a chance for this scene to return. Still, only 10 days more days til Spring!

House Portrait

It's hard to believe (in March) that my yard and gardens ever look so lush and green! Today there is snow still covering the beds, but the snow is definitely receding! I painted this last week for a sample piece, as I'm looking for some new commission work. The bonus is that I can also hang it in my own house. My husband loves his perennial gardens, and he liked that I did the back yard view.
