"Melt"

It's been very hot here, with temperatures in the 90's all week. My classroom becomes pretty unbearable after a few days of this weather. Fortunately a front went through this afternoon, and the air is definitely feeling cooler and less humid! This week's Illustration Friday prompt was a perfect match for how everyone was feeling.

The Da Vinci Initiative

I had an interesting and enjoyable trip to Portland Maine this past weekend, participating in a workshop  led by Paul Ingbretson and the Da Vinci Initiative organization.

We worked on drawing in the Classical Style from plaster casts. It was challenging to approach drawing in a different way than I would normally do. For one thing, one had to stand back and observe the forms, then work on the silhouette remembering how the outline looked from the observation point. Then one had to find the shadow line to define the light from the dark. I had to learn to focus on the "big picture" instead of little details.

Of course we had lots of fun too! Portland is full of interesting shops and excellent restaurants!

Happy Mother's Day!

                                                             Happy Mother's Day!

I enjoyed spending a part of this beautiful, summer-like day with my own mom, as well as a visit from my older daughter, and a call from the younger one. A really lovely day!

"Wiggle"

Here is my drawing for this week's Illustration Friday" prompt, "wiggle". Remember all the fun we had with those hula hoops!

The sun is out today and the temperatures are reaching into the 70's! Time to wash some more windows, and get the garden ready for planting. These daffodils were barely blooming last week, but they are all out today!
