Today I am posting a couple images from my book "Alice and The Bird Lady". It told the story of my grandmother, who grew up on Block Island, and the lessons she learned from the island "bird lady", Miss Elizabeth Dickens. Miss Dickens used to visit my grandmother's one-room schoolhouse to teach the students all about birds. She would brings stuffed birds from her collection, as well as take the students out on field trips to observe the birds and their habitats.

The book sounds interesting. I think your linework is beautiful and these illustrations really seem to take the viewer back in time.
ReplyDeleteWow! You students are very lucky! Your illustrations are superb!
ReplyDeleteThese are just lovely. They have a Beatrice Potter feel to them.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done, and very appropriate for the IF topic!

ReplyDeleteHaven't visited your blog in awhile. You have some great new pieces! I really like the perspective in the classroom and the detail of the paper roll at the edge of the frame.
ReplyDeleteFunny, that little paper roll detail mentioned above caught my eye too. These are really lovely work!
ReplyDeletewow!!! great this little story, is this a future book???!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt was published by a small press in 2002. Happily, my grandmother (who lived to 100) got to see it. I was fortunate that she wrote down her childhood memories for me, and answered my questions while she was still able.
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely to hear that your gran got to see your wonderful book Jane. It is so important to find out our family history, I am sure she had lots to tell you. Beautiful illustrations,
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend,
