This week's prompt for Illustration Friday made me think about one of my favorite childhood memories of summer. My family did alot of camping, and we always roasted marshmallows around the fire at night. When my own girls were younger, we traveled with our pop-up camper and continued the tradition.
Here's a picture of my dad, sister, and me sitting around our campfire at Rangely State Park in Maine in 1968.

Marshmallows...yummm...may the tradition carry on! Marvelous little illo. !
ReplyDeleteAaaawww! This looks so sweet and tender. What a beautiful memory.
ReplyDeleteYour illustration reminds me of my childhood, family camping (in a trailer like the one in your photo!), and Girl Scouts. Very charming. I like the black and white.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful illustration!
ReplyDeleteWonderful style. I always appreciate graphite.
ReplyDeleteSo very cozy.
ReplyDeletethe low contrast value structure keeps us safe.
nice.
This illustration is actually done in vine charcoal and charcoal pencil. Illustration Friday doesn't have that catagory to pick from.
ReplyDeleteI covered a whole piece of Canson cold-pressed watercolor paper with vine charcoal and rubbed it in with a tissue, then I drew the basic sketch with the vine. I erased the areas I wanted lighter, then went back in with the charcoal pencil for details and darker values. I really like this technique when I do night scenes.
sweet illustration
ReplyDeleteThere is a very delightful quality about this.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely, nostalgic piece! (There's nothing like a toasted marshmallow!) Your post was great, and i was fun to see your photo. And it was very interesting to read your comment describing your process.
ReplyDeleteJust darling, and I loved to hear about your technique! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful memories this must bring back for you. I love your work and would be tickled if you'd link into my new "directory of the creatively inclined" over at artseebloggers.com
